This is a new 29,826 square foot Physical Fitness Center to provide fitness and recreational facilities to promote fitness and well-being of military personnel and family members. The indoor Fitness Facility includes a new basketball court, indoor playing courts, aerobics/exercise areas, weight/cardiovascular training equipment, storage/gear spaces, administration offices, vending areas, locker rooms/sauna, and pull-out spectator seating in the gymnasium. The project also includes supporting facilities for site and building utility connections and antiterrorism/force protection (AT/FP) along with physical security measures. AT/FP provisions were incorporated into the design in accordance with UFC 4-010-01.
MEH led the Design-Build Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Fire Alarm/Mass Notification Engineering design. DoD Minimum Antiterrorism Standards for Buildings were heavily considered. Outside air intakes will be located a minimum of ten feet above ground level. Emergency shutoff switch accessible to building occupants will be provided to allow shutdown of the HVAC system. Outdoor air conditioning equipment will be located and/or enclosed to meet setback requirements. Sustainable design was effectively implemented with energy efficient air conditioning system, extremely low energy consuming supplemental ventilation systems in the form of BigAssFans, Photovoltaic systems, and Solar Hot Water heating.
Construction is estimated to be completed in 2013 and is anticipating LEED Gold certification.
