The scope of this project is to upgrade and replace the existing 2000# capacity Montgomery overhead geared traction elevator with a new larger 3500# capacity passenger elevator at Building 1366. The new elevator will be more energy efficient and meet new requirements of the 2009 International Building Code (IBC). This will provide improved elevator service to its occupants and accommodate an emergency stretcher per the requirements of IBC. A special requirement of the project is that the existing hoistway and machine room will be enlarged and structurally enhanced to support the larger unit and to also meet elevator seismic (Zone 2) requirements. Additionally, components that will be upgraded include the machine bedplate, governor, elevator controller with new non-proprietary unit, motor generator set with new solid-state direct motor drive unit (regenerative), door operator with new solid-state closed loop control, elevator cab enclosure, car frame, safeties, counterweight, rails with seismic compliance, etc. The existing fire alarm (FA) system will be expanded to accept the new FA initiating devices required per current code.
Construction is estimated to be completed in 2013. The project has received multiple bids and the low bid is $1.59 million, within 20% of the government estimate of $1.91 million.
