The Prince Jonah Kuhio Kalanianaole Federal Building and Courthouse project includes the complete renovation of a nine story building and five story courthouse building, which has a combined total floor area of 650,000 square feet. The federal building alone houses 57 agencies including FBI, DEA, U.S Marshals, CBP, Coast Guard, Congressional offices, Judges Chambers, Courtrooms, etc. Due to the complexity of the renovation work, this project is to be constructed in 2 Parts and 15 Phases. This allowed entire agencies to be relocated into temporary swing spaces to allow continued operations of both buildings including creating full sized temporary Federal Courtrooms within existing spaces.
The project requires a full HVAC system replacement with a total capacity of 2,000 tons, and renovations of the plumbing, fire sprinkler and fire alarm systems.
MEH has completed the design for Part 1 & 2. Part 1 is currently under construction. Construction is expected to be completed in 2015.
This project is expected to achieve LEED Gold certification.
